CVE-2026-49201
A hardcoded AES key in the upload.cgi binary of Acer Wave 7 firmware lets attackers decrypt, alter, and re‑encrypt device backups. This can be used to embed a persistent backdoor. The flaw is critical because it compromises all backup data and system integrity.
No official fix yet. If none appears within 45 days of first tracking, this entry is removed automatically.
Who is affected
Acer Wave 7 firmware devices, typically used in small‑to‑medium business or home networking environments.
Real-world impact
An attacker who can access the backup process can read all backup contents, modify them, and re‑encrypt them with the same key. This enables the attacker to inject malicious code that will survive firmware updates and remain hidden from normal diagnostics.
Why this severity
The CVSS score of 10 reflects that the vulnerability has a high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Because the attacker can fully control backups and inject persistent changes, the risk is considered critical.
What to do about it
No official fix or mitigation is documented in the sources yet. Monitor the vendor advisory and apply the patch as soon as it is released.
