CVE-2026-46244
A flaw in the Linux kernel’s netfilter module could let attackers forge transport headers in IPv6 packets, potentially bypassing firewall rules. The issue was fixed in a kernel update that corrected a desynchronization bug. Users should update to a patched kernel version.
An official fix is available, so this entry is kept for 30 days and then removed automatically.
Who is affected
Linux kernel 6.2 and later stable releases, including 7.1, on systems running netfilter (iptables/nftables).
Real-world impact
An attacker could craft IPv6 packets that appear to use a different protocol, such as TCP, allowing them to bypass firewall rules and potentially gain unauthorized network access.
Why this severity
The CVSS score of 9.1 reflects the high impact of being able to bypass firewall protections without authentication, combined with the low effort required to exploit the desynchronization bug.
What to do about it
- 01Upgrade your Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix (e.g., 6.3 or later).
- 02Reboot the system to load the new kernel.
