CVE-2026-4480

A critical flaw in Samba’s printing subsystem allows attackers to inject shell commands through the job description field. The vulnerability arises because Samba forwards the client‑supplied description to the configured print command without escaping shell metacharacters. If exploited, an attacker can run arbitrary commands on the affected system.

Who is affected

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.0; Samba; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0

02

Real-world impact

An attacker can send a specially crafted print job that contains shell metacharacters, causing the print command to execute those characters as code. This can lead to remote code execution, allowing the attacker to take full control of the system.

03

Why this severity

The CVSS score of 9 reflects that the vulnerability is exploitable over the network (AV:N), requires high attack complexity (AC:H), no user interaction (UI:N), and has a complete compromise impact (C:H, I:H, A:H). The attacker needs no privileges or authentication to exploit it.
