Amazon Athena ODBC driver versions before 2.1.0.0 do not properly validate certificates when connecting to external identity providers. This flaw can let a man‑in‑the‑middle attacker intercept authentication credentials. The issue does not affect direct Athena connections.
An official fix is available, so this entry is kept for 30 days and then removed automatically.
Who is affected
Amazon Athena ODBC driver, versions older than 2.1.0.0, used by users who connect to external identity providers.
Real-world impact
An attacker could capture login credentials and gain unauthorized access to the data or services protected by the identity provider.
Why this severity
The CVSS score of 9.1 reflects that the flaw allows a network attacker to obtain confidential data and tamper with integrity, without needing any authentication. The high impact on confidentiality and integrity, combined with low attack complexity and no user interaction, drives the critical rating.
