CVE-2026-31405
A critical flaw in the Linux kernel’s DVB network driver lets an attacker read memory out of bounds and potentially execute code. The bug occurs when a network packet contains an extension type value of 255, bypassing bounds checking and triggering an out‑of‑bounds read. The issue has been fixed by adding a bounds check that discards invalid packets.
An official fix is available, so this entry is kept for 30 days and then removed automatically.
Who is affected
All Linux kernel versions, including 2.6.12 and 7.0, are affected. Any system running a vulnerable kernel is at risk.
Real-world impact
An attacker could read sensitive memory or execute arbitrary code, potentially taking full control of the affected system.
